Letter to the Editor of The New Age from Mr Bongani Msomi (UDM Secretary General) regarding: "Service delivery protests and student riots are a thorn in the flesh of our Nation" (22 February 2011)

Dear Sir

Please allow me to express the concern of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) about the ongoing and escalating number of service delivery protests - this includes students’ demonstrations at various institutions of higher learning in the Country. They are yet another symptom which shows that South Africans are sick and tired of the empty promises of the African National Congress (ANC).

We believe that if the ANC was walking the talk, we would not be experiencing this instability. The UDM therefore urges, the ANC Government to take this seriously; it is not exclusively their members and supporters who are adversely affected. The ANC Government must also attend to the crises on our campuses; our children suffer because they cannot afford tuition fees and there is a lack of suitable accommodation.

The ANC must do everything in its power to solve these problems – otherwise our Country will be in ruins.

The UDM urges South Africans to think twice before making their crosses on the ballot papers during this upcoming Municipal Elections. How long are we going to allow the ANC to fool us with their far-fetched promises? Enough is enough!

Yours in Nation building,

Mr Bongani Msomi
UDM Secretary General
