Open letter to the Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency regarding "Appointment of ANCYL members to NYDA advisory committee" from UDMYV Secretary Gauteng (18 October)

Dear Mr Lungisa

We learnt with shock of the reported appointment of ANC Youth League (ANCYL) members to serve as an advisory committee of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). We also learnt that there was an introduction of sixty members and we, who are active in Gauteng youth development, know nothing of this.

We demand that these appointments be withdrawn and a proper selection process that is transparent be engaged in that shows the demographics of South Africa. NYDA ignoring this demand means that it is not serious about youth development - it is just another way of enriching the few ANCYL cronies – and we do not recognise such organisations. We would like to know:

  1. Who took part in selection process?
  2. What were the selection criteria?
  3. Why were only ANCYL members selected?

It appears as if the NYDA is merely a puppet of the ANCYL and therefore a puppet of the ANC.

Yours in Nation Building

Mr Malibongwe Luyenge
