ANCYL threats are anti-democracy - statement by Mr Velile Yayi (UDMYV National Spokesperson) (27 May 2010)

The ANCYL statements reported today – about trashing the city of Cape Town and rendering the city ungovernable – are irresponsible. The language they use is outdated and out of touch with the realities faced by those living in poverty.

Instead the ANCYL and other youth formations should rather begin to debate issues of urbanization and aggressive rural development. That would be a better contribution from our youth, in order to influence policy directions on such issues.

The behavior of the ANCYL’s Mr. Loyiso Nkohla is therefore unacceptable and the law must take its course to ensure that such anti-development and anti-democratic behavior is punished. Equally so, we need our municipalities to prioritise the eradication of shacks and speed up the delivery of decent housing to all communities.
