Breathalyser dropped; what does this mean for Jub-Jub case? - statement by UDEMWO Secretary General (16 March 2010)

The suspension of the admissibility of the Dräger breathalyser machine as evidence in drunken driving cases in Gauteng is worrying. As an example, how will this impact on the State’s case against hip-hop artist Molemo Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala who now face murder charges?

It would be travesty of justice should a prominent accused escape prosecution on a technicality. Such a scenario would further undermine the public’s faith in the justice system.
