|Open letter to President Motlanthe and Hon. S Shiceka (Minister of Provincial and Local Government) regarding "Provincial border dispute and related matters" from Bantu Holomisa, MP - UDM President (31 March 2009)|
The abovementioned matter refers.
On 29 March 2009 I had cause to visit the village of Rapopo, also known as Litho and Witlaagte. At the public meeting that I addressed, the people of the village told me that since the village was included in the Limpopo province they have not received any significant service delivery. Their roads are in disrepair and water is a major problem.
Those villagers that I spoke to were unanimous in their desire for Rapopo to be returned to Mpumalanga, since they are closer to that province.
The villagers tell me that they had raised their concerns with then President Mbeki and various people in the different spheres of Government, without getting a proper response.
I call on you to appoint a task team to listen to the people of this village; it seems to me that their concerns are similar to those of other communities who were recently returned to the provinces that they were originally part of.
