Acting National Police Chief acting disgracefully media statement by the UDM Chief Whip (25 June 2008)

From the recent media reports regarding the Selebi saga there seems to be a concerted effort by Acting National Commissioner, Mr Tim Williams to block further investigation.

This creates a bad impression about this country's crime fighting agencies and raises questions as to who the SAPS' loyalty lies with. How is the public expected to have confidence in the police when they are blocking a criminal investigation?

A further implication is that certain people are beyond reproach, contrary to the Country's Constitution, which advocates equality before the law.

We hope that the NPA will pursue all available legal recourse against Mr Williams, for undermining a criminal investigation.
