Barbaric act at university media statement issued by the President of the United Democratic Movement (27 February 2008)

The UDM condemns the barbaric act that has purportedly been committed by students of the University of the Free State against members of staff there.
Such an attack upon the dignity of fellow South Africans is something that has no place in our democracy.

We commend the rector for the swift action taken against those involved.

These people should not be allowed to study at that university or any other institution of learning in this country. They should be blacklisted from studying again for bring themselves and the education system to shame.

Further legal and criminal steps must be taken to punish the culprits, especially those who have already graduated from the university since this incident transpired.
