TO: Mama family
FROM: Bantu Holomisa, UDM President
I received with shock the sad news of the sudden passing of Monde. Monde Mama has been a
victim of the crime in this country and he fought bravely for his life. It is a pity that
the crime in this country has become just another statistic and accepted as commonplace.
Monde Mama is well-known in South African communities because he was the Vodacom face when
it came to community projects. He had helped a lot of communities and in the process
promoted the brand of Vodacom. There is no doubt in anybody's mind that Monde had a bright
future.
Personally, I speak from experience, because I was approached by Zola 7 to look for a
sponsor to build a library in Mthatha's Ngangelizwe Township, Monde immediately saw an
opportunity for Vodacom to plough back into the community when I spoke to him about the
project. I remember we went to his office with Zola 7 and his staff, and by the time we
left the meeting we had already gotten a 'yes' in principle, subject to the channels to be
followed. And indeed, Monde's recommendation to his Board was approved. I was looking
forward to the opening day of that library, so that I could thank him formally again. But
Monde is no more and I call upon his friends and family to accept that he is no more with
us; God has decided to redeploy him elsewhere. But his spirit will forever be with us.
If there is any consolation that the family can draw at this stage it is that they can be
proud of what Monde had achieved.
May his soul rest in peace
