Zuma prosecution welcomed - media statement issued by UDM President (20 June 2005)It would have created many difficulties for a serving Deputy President to be prosecuted; now however the way has been cleared for the pursuit of justice. Mr Zuma will now get his opportunity to be prosecuted as he has insisted upon for years.
We hope that a speedy prosecution will also help to quell growing instability in the country by resolving once and for all the unresolved questions regarding the conduct of Mr Zuma.
This decision by the NPA sends a strong and unequivocal message to all people: in South Africa nobody is above the law. No matter what the outcome of this case, all those who participate in corruption will realise that as a country we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to root out corruption.
