The UDM would like to caution the ANC and IFP against using the Zulu monarchy to further party political objectives.
Traditional leadership is an important political and cultural institution and must be accorded the necessary respect. It is also therefore necessary for the Zulu King not to be caught in the middle of party political battles, or else risk alienating significant numbers of his subjects.
The issue of defining the role of Traditional Leadership within our fledgling democracy must be carefully deliberated, instead of leaving it unattended as is currently the case. Traditional Leaders have not been included in the development agenda of the country, and are mostly ignored until there is party political gain to had from involving them. This further insults the institution and the culture of millions of South Africans. |
