MEDIA RELEASE

ANC AND NNP AGREEMENT

STATEMENT ISSUED BY BANTU HOLOMISA, MP
UDM PRESIDENT

The agreement that was announced today between the NNP and ANC paves the way for the parties to share power in ways that were not envisaged or intended by voters. It intends for the parties to equally share provincial  cabinet positions, with the Premier going to the NNP, whilst the mayor of Cape Town is envisaged as an ANC candidate. The ANC did not gain anything from the agreement it has struck with the NNP. In fact, it has capitulated and is again serving its old masters.

People should reject this agreement and recognise it as the political opportunism it is. This agreement does not reflect the situation on the ground, or grassroots support.

The ANC is gambling - it is not even sure that it will receive the mayoral position in Cape Town because the DA councillors hold the majority.

To still their power hunger they now want to tamper with the country's Constitution instead of testing the will of the people.
