UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

ZERO TOLERANCE TO CHEATING IN EXAMINATIONS AND CORRUPT EDUCATION OFFICIALS

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY KWAZI MPUMLWANA
UDESMO NATIONAL PRESIDENT

The United Democratic Students' Movement (UDESMO) strongly condemns the act of defiance, seemingly displayed by the two pupils from Lenasia (Johannesburg) who failed to appear before a Gauteng Education Department irregularity panel after they were accused of cheating in this year's matric examinations.

The whole issue surrounding the security of matric exam marks, leaking of papers and cheating in examinations is something, which the department of education and the rest of South Africa need to take seriously. We must be genuinely concerned about the future and the development of our country. The success of that future rests on a good and uncorrupt education.

UDESMO strongly appeals to government and the department of education to take very decisive action against the system administrator in the Mpumalanga department of education who was caught on camera accepting money for tampering with matric marks.
