THIEVES AND FRAUDSTERS IN DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE EXPLOIT VICTIMS OF CRIME

STATEMENT ISSUED BY PROF. MTUTUZELI MBADI, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

It is shocking that a large number of staff members of the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development are involved in theft and fraud related matters. This has been uncovered through a question to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development posed by the UDM.

Over the past 2 years and 10 months an identified amount of R16.3 million has been stolen. However, 32 cases have unknown amounts, and only R1, 08 million has been / will be paid back. Many of the staff members have also gone unpunished or have had part of their sentences suspended.

In light of the above the UDM calls on the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development to swiftly and mercilessly eradicate corruption in government, thereby preventing the further disruption of justice and the exploitation of victims of crime.
