ISSUED BY PROF MTUTUZELI MBADI, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM
UDM welcomes the announcement for an incentive package of R360 million for the
pilot project aimed at generating economic growth through tourism as part of the
Lubombo Spatial Development Initiative in KwaZulu Natal.
The UDM acknowledges the importance of the environment, including areas such as
the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Parks. The UDM proposes that a fine balance must
be struck between development and job creation on the one hand, and the
ecological sensitivity of our rich environmental assets on the other hand.
The UDM urges government to continue with strategies, which are in tune with the
realities and needs of South African economic growth and development. This in
turn would empower South Africans to improve their standard of living, by
equipping them with housing around growth points, the provision of water,
electricity, and health services, as well as the provision of recreational
outlets for both the population and tourists.
