WHERE ARE THE FRAUDSTERS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS?

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON ON HOME AFFAIRS

Recent media reports about syndicates that have been caught issuing falsified work permits, permanent residence certificates and identity documents seemingly in collaboration with some officials in the Department of Home Affairs prompted a question to the Minister of Home Affairs.

The question sought information regarding the number of Home Affairs officials that were involved in cases of fraud and what the details of each case of fraud were.

Surprisingly the answer indicated that false travel and subsistence allowance claims and falsified academic qualification form the basis of these investigations and disciplinary actions.

The UDM is astounded that seemingly no official was changed with fraudulent activities relating to serious misconduct that directly influences the service delivery of the Department of Home Affairs.

Surely, the impression created in the answer cannot be accurate. The UDM urges the Minister and his Department to act mercilessly against those officials who discredit the Department of Home Affairs.
