UDM CALLS ON MINISTERS TO ERADICATE CORRUPT CRIMINAL JUSTICE OFFICIALS MEMBERS

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON ON SAFETY AND SECURITY

The UDM expresses its distress and extreme concern at the escape of seven Pagad G-force members suspected of urban terror.

It is clear that there were many irregularities, such as the fact that only one policeman guarded these men at court, as opposed to the customary two. Furthermore, these seven men used as their escape route an exit that is exclusively used by judges. This is a clear indication that there was some form of "inside" assistance by members of the criminal justice system.

The UDM calls on the Minister of Justice as well as the Minister of Safety and Security to urgently investigate inside involvement to eradicate any corruption in the ranks of the criminal justice system, especially in the light of heightened international tensions relating to terror groups.
