UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

EDUCATION MINISTER MUST ACT NOW

STATEMENT ISSUED BY PROF MTUTUZELI MBADI, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR EDUCATION

It is pathetic that violence, rape, sexual harassment, and the theft are only some of the factors that South African learners and educators have to deal with every day.

The UDM calls on the Minister of Education to intervene to protect educators, and other authority figures against the escalating violence in schools, which is being fuelled by a collapse of discipline amongst learners and educators.

The national crisis that the Education system finds itself in is disgusting. The sanctity of the learning process is being tarnished and in a few years from now our economy will suffer as a result of a lack of skills development.

The UDM urges the Minister of Education to address the fears of parents and educators as the custodian of our children, by implementing national holistic programmes that will address the unravelling of our moral fibre. The Minister must act now, for every day that goes by with these derogative events is yet another day that our children approach a dismal and dark future.
