UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

TAX-EVADERS ARE AN UNNECESSARY BURDEN

STATEMENT ISSUED BY GERHARD KOORNHOF, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR FINANCE

The United Democratic Movement expresses its concern that an amount of more than
R6 billion was owed to the Revenue Services in outstanding VAT and PAYE.

The UDM condemns in the strongest possible sense those taxpayers who attempt to circumvent the laws by not paying their taxes, refusing to supply the required information and who do not submit tax returns. The UDM also encourages SARS to bring these transgressors to book.

However, the UDM acknowledges that it is the majority of tax paying South Africans that assist in building and expanding our economy and make it possible to deliver services and create infrastructure.

The UDM expresses the sentiment that not all taxpayers are dishonest and crooked and appeal to SARS to treat them accordingly, as partners in building our economy.
