UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM
events have, in a tragically unexpected fashion, highlighted the necessity for
the international community to unite around global issues that affect the lives
of all people.
One such issue is the protection of the environment and specifically the
problems of ozone depletion and global warming.
The UDM calls upon government and all South African political and business
leaders to imbue the environmental debate with new vigour and urgency. It is
vital that as a nation and as a role-player on the international stage South
Africa plays a pro-active role in environmental affairs. Catastrophic climate
change is fast becoming a reality. Beyond a certain point in the near future the
effects of climate change may become permanently irreversible and unmanageable.
We have a duty not to bequeath to our children droughts, starvation, natural
disasters, economic destabilisation and health hazards.
