ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH OF STEVE BIKO

STATEMENT ISSUED BY BANTU HOLOMISA, MP
UDM PRESIDENT

The anniversary of Steve Biko's death tomorrow is a significant landmark in South African history. Our thoughts will be with the Biko family and friends on this day when they have to confront again the injustice they suffered.

Wherever the name Biko is spoken, it remains synonymous with the struggle for equality. We hope that this day will serve as an opportunity to recognise how far we have come since those dark days in the late seventies. It is undeniable that we still have a long way to go, but I am confident that Steve Biko would have approved of the current opportunity that we have, as South Africans of all races, to embark on that journey as partners, not opponents.

In that light, the UDM believes that this day can serve to unite all South Africans around the cause of creating a just and equitable society.
