SA GREATS PASS ON: TIME FOR SA'S YOUNG PEOPLE TO CONTINUE THE FIGHT

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY LUZUKO LUWACA
UDMYV NATIONAL SECRETARY GENERAL

The United Democratic Movement Youth Vanguard (UDMYV) would like to salute the two South African legends that have recently been taken from us.

Govan Mbeki and Donald Woods were both men who fought for what they believed in; they were teachers, not only in the strict sense of the word, that fought to enlighten and educate all people.

Most young South Africans had not been born when Govan Mbeki and Donald Woods were in their prime and at the height of their struggle for the freedom of all South Africans. The young must learn from their example and continue the fight against injustice and human rights abuse. The young must also appreciate the value of education and such opportunities, as both these men were living examples of good education and learning.

The UDMYV calls on all South Africans, but especially the younger generation, to take up the challenge that the heritage of Govan Mbeki and Donald Woods has left South Africa. It is time for us to be honest and willing to work out our differences, and focus on the commonalities that make us all South African.

The UDMYV would also like to extend its sympathy in this time of bereavement to the children, family, friends, colleagues and all South Africans who shared in Govan Mbeki's life.
