UDM CALLS FOR EFFECTIVE PLANNING IN EDUCATION

STATEMENT ISSUED BY PROF MUTUZELI MBADI, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR EDUCATION

The UDM welcomes the proposed agreement between the Department of Education and the Canadian government.

The future stability and prosperity of South Africa depends on the level and quality of education and skills training of its citizens. The UDM wishes to thank the Canadian government for assisting South Africa to implement the UDM's vision on Education: World class people through world class education for a world class nation.

In light of the current state of affairs in the Department of Education, the UDM expresses the hope that the Minister will pay special attention to the needs of the learner and ensure that this agreement reaches its intended beneficiaries. We urge the Minister to focus this foreign assistance on the priority areas of mathematics and science. Similarly, it is vital that the teachers who benefit from training via this agreement pass their knowledge on to their learners and their colleagues.

The UDM calls upon the Minister of Education to implement practical and integrated solutions, by ensuring effective and collaborative planning towards the provision of life-long learning opportunities.
