SOCIAL WELFARE CRISIS IN EASTERN CAPE IS AN
 INDICTMENT OF THE ANC GOVERNMENT

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY MABANDLA GOGO
UDM PROVINCIAL SPOKESPERSON (EASTERN CAPE)

The ANC government has once again passed the buck on the social welfare crisis in the Eastern Cape. Our children die because they have no food, our elderly breathe their last in pension payout queues; and the ANC government just shrugs at this reflection of its inability to relieve the plight of the poor.

In truth, an intricate web of ANC mismanagement, corruption, incompetence and poor delivery has exacerbated the current social welfare crisis in our poorest province.

News from the Eastern Cape reads like an obituary of ANC failures. Seven years down the road of ANC rule, it is clear that the existing provincial executive is unable to coordinate and implement programmes to reach the people; particularly the very young and very old.

It is time that the ANC take stock of what is happening in the Eastern Cape. Not one department in the provincial government that can claim success in making a real difference in the lives of the poor.

Ironically, ANC exclaims that "The time has come that we launch a sustained offensive to wipe out poverty ... Millions of our people are still condemned to suffer from hunger, from malnutrition and its diseases."

The UDM and the people of our country has seen no evidence of an ANC attempt to "wipe out poverty", instead the ANC condemns the poor to their futureless plight with their shameless spending on guns, plush homes and expensive vehicles.
