CHALLENGED TO PROVE COMMITMENT TO RESPONSIBLE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
ISSUED BY PROF MTUTUZELI MBADI, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM
refusal by the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Vali Moosa, to
speak out against the controversial practise of commercial hunting with hounds
is in effect a disgraceful approval of this reckless and cruel practice.
Furthermore, the UDM strongly condemns the Minister's lack of action and is
disgusted that he did not heed the call to intervene and prevent this ridiculous
proposal from continuing.
One of South Africa's greatest resources is the environment. Without correct
legislative measures, and the promotion of sustainable development coupled with
job creation, this country would be doing an injustice both to its people and
its natural resources. The Minister ought to be able to take a simple stance on
such a basic matter, which is riddled with irrational arguments by seemingly
misinformed or misguided KZN Wildlife officials, thereby proving his commitment
to sustainable development and responsible environmental management.
The UDM calls on the Minister to practice what he preaches, by putting a stop to
this ludicrous proposal.
