BUTHELEZI'S COMMENTS PROVE THAT HOME AFFAIRS IS SUFFERING DUE TO ANC/IFP POLITICS

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON ON HOME AFFAIRS

The weekend statements by Minister Buthelezi vindicates the UDM's long-held position that ANC/IFP politics lies at the centre of the Department of Home Affairs' poor performance.

The latest complaints by the Minister against his former DG, as well as his Cabinet colleagues, are a clear indication that the Department of Home Affairs is the victim of political power games between the ANC and IFP.

It is time that the ANC proves its seriousness about the work of the Department by giving it the resources and budget it requires. If this means appointing someone who is a more "acceptable" Minister in ANC circles, then so be it. There can be no doubt that continued politicking will lead the Department into an irrecoverable state of disrepair, which will break the backbone of the state's administration. Service delivery is on the line; it is time to act.
