OF POOR BY PAC
ISSUED BY MR SALAM ABRAM, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR AGRICULTURE AND LAND AFFAIRS
UDM expresses its concern at the exploitation of the poor by the PAC by
encouraging Zimbabwe-style land invasions. These land invasions add fuel to the
fire of emotional and economic hardships, as many South Africans are landless.
The play on their emotions by the PAC and the pathetic exploitative charge of
R25 cannot be justified by any political party that has the interests of the
people of this country at heart.
The UDM recognises that ownership of land is a fair indicator of economic
empowerment and thus urges government to urgently formulate an integrated
programme that may be fast-tracked. This programme should include job creation
and poverty alleviation mechanisms, thereby reducing the exploitation of the
poor and needy.
The UDM further calls for the additional fast-tracking of current redistribution
programmes by government in order to protect the landless from such distasteful
political manoeuvres. The poor, who are amongst the most vulnerable of our
society, must be protected. The PAC is making itself guilty of exactly the same
thing it accuses the ANC of, promising land and not delivering.
