SARS' INVESTIGATION OF WINNIE

STATEMENT ISSUED BY NOKUZOLA MNDENDE, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR IMPROVEMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE AND STATUS OF WOMEN

In anticipation of the outcome of the SARS' investigation of Ms Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, the UDM hopes that this is not just another witch-hunt against Ms. Madikizela-Mandela, as she defied the ANC leadership with her public display of independence and "affection".

SARS is demanding that Ms. Madikizela-Mandela come forward with financial information on her role in the ANC, the Women's League, the Youth League, the Mandela Football Club, the Congress of Traditional Leaders of SA and her private business dating back many years. This demand comes ahead of the ANCWL congress in August and may be interpreted as a political ploy to sideline Madikizela-Mandela.

The UDM also notes that this letter may not be inline with the Income Tax Act and is possibly unbefitting a government institution. Hence, the UDM keenly awaits the outcome of this investigation.
