UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

LEGENDS ARE FOREVER

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY LUZUKO LUWACA
UDMYV NATIONAL SECRETARY

Legends never die; their sprits continue to influence our destiny. The UDMYV therefore does not mourn the courageous youths who took to the streets of SOWETO 25 years ago in 1976 in the fight for our liberation; they are legends indeed. Instead, the UDMYV commemorates these heroes and heroines of 16 June 1976 with a pledge of rededication to the cause and the rekindling of the 1976 light that has been doused out by a spray of corruption of government.

The UDMYV will carry forth the torch from our fallen predecessors; the time to extinguish the spirit has not yet come! Especially now, when nothing except the era has changed like from the armed struggle to the hunger struggle. Twenty-five years down the line our students still cannot get access to good quality education. The education of thousands of poor students and learners is not subsidised by the ANC Government, because the national budget is directed towards SA’s “top priorities”; acquisition of arms at phenomenal prices. The country’s poorest of the poor is still living under conditions that are below standard. South Africa has sadly turned into a place where unemployment and crime have become rampant.

These are just some of the many good reasons why the UDMYV will recommit itself towards the establishment of true democracy in South Africa. In a spirit similar to that of our legendary youths of 16 June 1976, the UDMYV will stand strong and courageous in the fight against corruption and mismanagement of resources. We will do everything in our power to expose any elements in Government, and anywhere else, which pose as obstacles in the way of true democracy.
