MUGABE TO PREACH LAND INVASION IN SA - UNACCEPTABLE

STATEMENT ISSUED BY MR. S. ABRAM, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR AGRICULTURE AND LAND AFFAIRS

The UDM expresses its concern at the invitation sent to President Robert Mugabe to attend a rally of South African tenants wanting to invade land. This invitation was sent by the Mpumalanga labour tenants committee via Zimbabwe's High Commissioner in South Africa, Simon Moyo.

The Mpumalanga labour tenants committee supports Zimbabwe-style land invasions and blamed the government for not moving fast enough with regards to land reform in South Africa. The threat of Zimbabwe-style invasions in South Africa is a reflection of an inadequate and incompetent land distribution structure.

The UDM calls on the Minister of Agriculture and Land Affairs to urgently deal with a potentially explosive situation by fast-tracking land reform in South Africa through appropriate legal routes.
