NGCUKA'S STATEMENTS ON THE ARMS DEAL UNCALLED FOR

STATEMENT ISSUED BY DR GERHARD KOORNHOF, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR PUBLIC ACCOUNTS

The UDM is concerned about comments by the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Bulelani Ngcuka, yesterday to the Parliamentary Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development.

It is a shame that Mr Ngcuka would report in Parliament on aspects of the arms deal investigation whilst the Standing Committee on Public Accounts has not been informed on progress with the investigation.

Furthermore, the UDM is especially concerned by Mr Ngcuka's comments that some of the allegations of corruption in the deal has been found to be "rubbish". Such comments indicate prejudgement of the outcome of the investigation before it has been finalised, and would seem to close down certain avenues of investigation while important evidence may still surface.
