MEDIA RELEASE

THE ROLE OF PARLIAMENT IN THE  ARMS DEAL INVESTIGATION

UDMYV RESPONSE TO THE STATEMENT ISSUED BY BANTU HOLOMISA

The United Democratic Movement Youth Vanguard applauds and fully supports the courageous initiative taken by the president of the United Democratic Movement when he publicly questioned the role of Parliament in the investigation of the arms deal.

We represent the youth of the UDM and stand firm on the view that suggests the appointment of a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate the role that Frene Ginwala has played in the way in which Parliament handled the arms deal probe. Unlike other bodies that have been lead by ANC appointees - like the auditor general - a commission of this nature stands a greater chance of not becoming yet another puppet of the ANC.

The UDM Youth Vanguard strongly disapproves of the action taken by the Speaker of Parliament towards dousing the debate on Yengeni's undeclared gifts. It is therefore also for this reason that we fully support the approach taken by the UDM.
