FARM POISONING SHOCK

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON FOR SECURITY AND SECURITY

The UDM condemns with contempt the despicable actions of the farmer from Potchefstroom who allegedly poisoned 47 farm workers. His actions can only be described as barbaric. It is hard to imagine that there can be any circumstances that can lead one to commit such an inhumane act.

Farmers, their families and farm workers are already vulnerable and under threat of violent attacks. It is acts such as these that contributes further towards negative feelings and further destabilises an already volatile situation.

The UDM calls on this farmer’s peer group, the farming community, to condemn this violent act in the strongest possible terms. It is important that the farming community distance themselves from these types of inhumane actions.
