ANC PROMISES OF FREE WATER AND ELECTRICITY

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY BANTU HOLOMISA, MP
UDM PRESIDENT

Once again the ANC is making glib promises on the eve of the local government elections. Thabo Mbeki has undertaken to give the rural communities free water and electricity. These services have not been made available to the poor people during the six years of ANC rule. Other promises were made on the eve of the elections in 1994 and 1999, but no delivery has been made on them. The questions to ask why has ANC not delivered free water and electricity up to now? Why do they make these promises on the eve of elections.

The only conclusion to draw from this sudden generosity is that the ANC holds the electorate in contempt. They undermine the people’s intelligence. They are so estranged from reality that they believe the people’s votes can be bought by wild promises by a government, which has not delivered on previous pledges.

They think the people will be made to forget the joblessness and economic misery they currently endure as a result of government policies.

The people of South Africa cannot be deceived by such ruses. They know that the ruling party officials are once more going the rounds misleading them.
