UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

JUNE 16

STATEMENT ISSUED BY MALIZOLE DIKO
UDM NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON

The UDM feels that this is a day when the South African Youth should be proud of the strength that they have as Youth.

The youth of South Africa should on this day show their dedication to reconciliation, learning and fighting against HIV/AIDS. The Youth should not be confused by the stance of President Mbeki on HIV/AIDS. Incidents such as that of the University of Durban Westville should not be allowed to happen in this country, not after what we have achieved.

The racial tensions in some tertiary institutions are disturbing and what disturbs one even more is the knowledge that these racial tensions are amongst the young people. The youth is the future of this country and if it continues the racial divides of the past to dictate to them the better future of this country is under threat, where people of all racial groupings will work together in harmony.

The National Youth Commission should play a very important role in unifying the youth of this country.

We can only hope to succeed as a nation if our youth is striving for success.
