UDM condemns incest in whatever form. It is a new dimension in our African
Cultural Society and it is further condemned when the elderly are the victims.
The UDM is aware of financial abuse of the elderly, usually by their own sons
and daughters. This stems from the fact that there is lack of employment,
especially in the deep rural communities. These sons and daughters have been
disappointed and disillusioned in the urban areas. The Poverty Relief Fund has
not alleviated poverty in the rural areas.
The UDM urges the Government to intervene in this scourge of financial abuse of
the elderly by properly managing and monitoring of the Poverty Relief Fund. This
fund should offer employment to the unemployed daughters and sons of the elderly
in the rural areas, and in that way bring relief to the lives of those affected
