MEDIA RELEASE

WESTERN CAPE MEC NOT TO CLOSE TAXI RANKS

STATEMENT ISSUED BY MALIZOLE DIKO
UDM NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON

The UDM welcomes the announcement by Western Cape MEC for  Transport, that he will not close taxi ranks, in favour of negotiations.

It has always been the UDM's view that negotiations are the route to take in resolving this conflict. The UDM urges the taxi organisations and the bus company to use this opportunity (negotiations) effectively. The taxi organisations and the bus company have now the challenge of proving to the community of the Western Cape that they are mature business people and not the hooligans as they have been portrayed to be by finding a peaceful solution to the problem.

The UDM gives its full support to this process as negotiations. The UDM would like to remind the taxi organisations and bus company that the commuters have suffered a lot and therefore have hopes that the conflict will be speedily resolved.
