R90M DONATION FROM EU

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY SAM DE BEER, MP
SPOKESPERSON FOR EDUCATION

The UDM expresses its sincere gratitude and appreciation for the donation of R90m by the European Union. In implementing the Education policy of our country, donations of this kind are of most importance. Where this donation is made to the South African qualifications authority concerning the purpose of matric exams, this matter touches on an issue, which concerns the future of millions of our young people in South Africa.

This donation by the European Union is therefore much appreciated. It also places a major responsibility upon the Minister of Education to make the government's intentions regarding matric exams known as soon as possible. Uncertainty and vagueness about this very important matter can do great harm to the motivation of learners at schools. The Minister should therefore react swiftly and promptly on this matter so as to avoid any form of doubtfulness that may occur.
