RELEASE ISSUED BY ANNELIZé VAN WYK, MP,
ACTING SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UDM
UDM welcomes the new South African Coat of Arms unveiled in Bloemfontein today.
The symbolism that it embodies and the motto of unity in diversity are
admirable. It signifies goals and attributes that all South Africans can aspire
to, and as such represent a valuable step towards nation building.
This new emblem symbolises fertility and growth; respect for authority,
moderation and strength; the beauty of our country and her people. It represents
the hopes and dreams of the all South Africans as well as what is
expected of Government.
The Freedom Day celebrations in Mpumalanga were unfortunately turned into a road
show for the ANC, we must express concern at the way this event of national
importance has been used as an ANC propaganda opportunity. Abusing an event
[Freedom Day] that belongs to all South Africans makes of mockery of the ideals
embodied in our new coat of arms, that celebrates our common heritage.
Furthermore, the SABC willingly played along by attempting to pass off the
crowd's disinterest as excitement. Proof, once more, that his master's choice is
his master's voice.
