RESIGNATION JAMES MAHLANGU

MEDIA RELEASE ISSUED BY ANNELIZé VAN WYK, MP,
ACTING SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UDM

The resignation of Prince James Mahlangu does not come as a surprise to the UDM.  Shortly after the 1999 elections the UDM leadership expressed its concern and requested Prince Mahlangu to reconsider his position due to ill health.

At a National Management Committee (NMC) meeting in July 1999, he tendered his resignation.  Shortly thereafter, he withdrew his resignation citing personal financial problems as the reason for this.  The NMC on humanitarian grounds reluctantly accepted this withdrawal.

If speculations are indeed true that he is offered a Government position in Mpumalanga then the ANC government in that Province have some explaining to do.  They should explain why they are appointing a person who is too ill to fulfill his duties as public representative in an in important and demanding position of government.

The UDM wishes Prince James well and hopes he speedily recovers from his illness.
