SAFA: WE WANT OUR BEST!

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY CEDRIC FROLICK, MP
UDM SPOKESPERSON ON SPORT AND RECREATION

The national soccer squad is experiencing many difficulties in picking quality players to play for Bafana Bafana; international players who are playing overseas are not available for selection for the South African team.

The same thing is happening at local club level, where there is no guarantee that a player at this level, will be available for selection to the national squad.

The UDM suggests that the South African Football Association (SAFA) get its house in order as is happening in other sport-codes such as rugby and cricket. SAFA will have to consider contracting players.

The UDM calls on SAFA to draft a long-term plan for the soccer fraternity of our country, to avoid possible problems that will adversely affect our squad, with negative results. South Africa cannot afford, and will not support, any idea that will cause Bafana Bafana to lose in the end.

SAFA must make sure that the best players are available for best quality soccer matches.
