ANC PRESENTATION ON RACISM IN THE MEDIA

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY MALIZOLE DIKO
UDM NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON

The UDM has noted with shock and concern the opportunity used by the ANC in its presentation to the HRC. What shocked us, is the systematic manner in which the ANC is trying to apply a gag to the Media from reporting about any wrong doings by the ANC government.

These issues of racism in the media should be dealt with but any political party should not use this issue of racism to blackmail the Media.

This sensitivity by the ANC government to criticism is a worrying sign especially for media freedom of speech. The fact that the ANC in its presentation chose to attack its former collaborators is a further illustration of this view.

The Media should guard against being used as spokesperson for Government and being intimidated by the same government.

The Media also needs to be sensitive towards the positive criticism that is levelled against it.

The ANC should refrain from trying to control the media because this is not healthy for democracy.
