PROBLEMS WITHIN NUMSA

MEDIA RELEASE ISSUED BY UDM EASTERN CAPE PROVINCE
MR JOHAN MALHERBE, MPL

The UDM once again reacts to the problems within NUMSA that has again come to the forefront that now has occurred at Good Year

NUMSA should sort out their internal problems; this problem will once again cause industrial mass action with consequent job losses. The UDM wants to call upon the workers at Good Year not to succumb to mass action and rather try to solve their problems within NUMSA structures and to try and get rid of the problems within NUMSA.

The UDM also wishes to call on NUMSA to come away from politics and forget the political agenda and concentrate on labour related issues because at the moment politics is dominating their thoughts.

The UDM also wants to make it clear to NUMSA they should not accuse organisations or structures like the UDM if any mishap occurs within NUMSA that will lead to mass action, as the UDM is totally opposed to it and NUMSA should take responsibility themselves in case mass action does take place.

If unions cannot function democratically and correctly and if they canít fulfil their duties to their workers, this will have a negative effect on investor confidence in South Africa.

The COSATU protest of this week is futile. It is time that unions become responsible so that people can have faith in them.
