MEDIA RELEASE

RECENT BUS ACCIDENT IN KEI, EASTERN CAPE

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY MALIZOLE DIKO
UDM NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON

The UDM wish to express its sincere condolences to the bereaved families who lost their relatives and loved ones in yesterday’s accident in Kei, Eastern Cape.

This clearly shows that measures put by the Ministry of Transport are not taken seriously, as accident are occurring more often as it is recently the case.

We call on the Minister of Transport, Dullah Omar to legislate very harsh punishment to these transport companies who seem to allow negligent drivers to transport people. This is totally unacceptable.

We also urge road users to be cautious, and respect human life. This country cannot afford this kind of road carnage caused by negligence.

Roads in the South Africa, and especially in the Eastern Cape, are not fit to drive on. We therefore call upon the Department of Transport to upgrade roads; as this will minimise road accidents.

We also appeal to the Minister, to apply stricter rules in terms of road usage, not only to companies but also to private (ordinary) road user.
