REPORT ON SITOLE: HE SHOULD BE FIRED

MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY
GERHARD KOORNHOF, MP UDM SPOKESPERSON FINANCE

In view of the unanimous conclusion of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, regarding the conduct of Dr. Sitole, Director General of Correctional Services, the UDM holds the view that he should be fired from his position and should rather leave the public service altogether.

The UDM sees this as an opportunity for the Executive, State President Mbeki in particular, to live up to its commitment to a clean administration, which primary duty is to serve the public. It must now illustrate that commitment by removing Sitole, with immediate effect, from high public office.

The UDM is encouraged by the fact that all parties agree that Sitole’s conduct is unbecoming of a public servant. It is now up to the Executive to follow suit — and to do so quickly and decisively by firing Sitole.
