UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

CONCERNING THE ANCíS INSULTING INSINCERITY

STATEMENT ISSUED BY BANTU HOLOMISA as UDM PRESIDENT

Another example of shameless ANC electioneering came out yesterday in the form of a document on moral renewal.  In recent months, the electorate has heard no small amount of government lip service on the need to fight corruption ďat every turnĒ.  As far back as the Moral Summit in October, the ANC government decided that social transformation could not occur without a moral regeneration and pledged to spearhead such a movement.  Predictably, all such statements have proven to be mere hypocritical posturing.

Since then, ANC politicians have hindered Judge Heath at every turn, attempting to discredit his commission and its efforts.  Ministers of the Presidential Cabinet (i.e. Zuma and Buthelezi) have refused responsibility for the shady dealings that have occurred within their departments.  High profile ANC politicians have come out in support of 1999ís Swindler of Year, Alan Boesak, and the ANC candidates list reads like a Golden Handshake Hall of Fame.

For our government to regain any credibility with the citizens of South Africa, it must back its pious speech with more than fruitless workshops and glossy booklets.  White-collar criminals in our country fear only a gentle reprimand from the ANC government.  These people must be brought to justice.  Theft is theft, and it demands a prison sentence.  South Africans have had enough of the ANCís insulting insincerity.  We demand action.
