UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

STATEMENT ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK as ACTING NATIONAL SECRETARY

Across the nation, the ANC hijacked supposedly apolitical government rallies, once again attempting to advance their party on the money of taxpayers.  By politicising a national holiday, the ANC invited the indignation of all South Africans who disapprove of their mismanagement of our government.  The UDM members of the Eastern Cape acted nobly by exercising their right to support the political party of their choice and by doing so in the face of a government that wishes to have them silenced.  The ANC has grown accustomed to the minor irritations of political parties, which they refer to as “Mickey Mouse”.  But as they now witness the growth of a formidable opposition, the anxiety of the ANC leadership is becoming increasingly evident.  Unfortunately, these states of excitement frequently produce preposterous and unfounded statements, such as the accusation that Bantu Holomisa is a fomenter of political violence.  The UDM simply offers an alternative to the ANC, a working democratic government.  The UDM is the best for South Africa, and therefore, we refuse to be silenced.
