THE UDM COMMENDS MINISTER MANUEL

RELEASE ISSUED BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK as ACTING NATIONAL SECRETARY

Yesterday, while introducing the ANC manifesto to Western Cape voters at a COSATU congress, Minister Trevor Manuel admitted to his audience that the ANC government had failed to deliver on its promises to eradicate crime and corruption and to create jobs. He then went on to boast about how unique it is for a government to admit such failure. The UDM would concur that such an admission by a government is unique indeed, but in the case of South Africa, it is non-existent. Mr. Manuel’s statement directly contradicts the line taken by his ANC colleagues and their party manifesto. What then was the inspiration for this candid confession? Whether it was a slip of the tongue or a pang of guilt, the UDM commends Mr. Manuel for his honesty.
