UNITED DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

OUTRAGE OVER CORRUPTION SUMMIT

STATEMENT BY ANNELIZÉ VAN WYK as ACTING NATIONAL SECRETARY

The UDM is outraged by the government’s decision to exclude members of the opposition parties from this week’s National Summit on Corruption. Considering the ANC’s notorious inclination to harbour and promote some of South Africa’s most shamelessly corrupt politicians, the sincerity and intentions of this meeting are dubious to say the least. Apparently, our government has forgotten the integral role that “checks and balances” play in a democracy.

The UDM views clean governance as a priority for South Africa and has much to contribute on the subject. Unfortunately, our government turns a deaf ear to constructive ideas. Remember last year’s Job Summit. The National Summit on Corruption reeks of more of the same, insulting insincerity and electioneering on behalf of the ANC.
